File location
Where Are CS2 Demo Files Saved?
There is no single folder for every CS2 demo. A browser download normally lands in your Downloads folder, while files copied for in-game playback may live under a Counter-Strike game directory.
Updated
Start with the download source
- Check the browser Downloads list for recently downloaded match files.
- Open the platform client or match room and inspect its chosen download destination.
- Search by the .dem, .dem.zst, or .dem.bz2 extension.
- Sort files by modified time when the generated filename is unclear.
Game folder versus upload folder
A demo only needs to be placed in a game-accessible path when you want to play it manually inside CS2. Browser parsing and upload can use the file from any folder that the file picker can access.
Avoid uploading the wrong asset
- 01Confirm the file date matches the match date.
- 02Check that the file is not an HTML error page or incomplete download.
- 03Keep only one copy selected while parsing.
- 04Verify map and player information after parsing before submitting a render.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to move the demo into the CS2 folder?
Not for n1cetry browser parsing. Select the file directly from its current local folder.
Why can I not find the demo after downloading it?
Check the browser's download history first. It shows the final filename and provides an option to reveal the containing folder.
